Voice- The Bodyshop with Jennifer Black and Dr. Steve is brought to you by Allegheny Chesapeake Physical Therapy.

Jennifer Black - Our topic tonight is Lumbar spinal stenosis. Dr. Steve what does stenosis mean!

Dr. Steve - Stenosis means narrowing, and in this case we are talking about narrowing in the lower spine.

As we age we lose height due to disc degeneration, this makes the exiting area for the nerve smaller and creates arthritic changes.

The person with Stenosis usually has back pain sometimes leg pain, which gets worse with walking or standing, and gets better with sitting. They can't go to the grocery store unless they can bend forward and lean on the cart.

Jennifer Black - is there a treatment for this stenosis?

Dr. Steve - Yes, treatment is based on learning how to manage your spine posture. Keeping those narrowed areas open as much as possible. This includes strengthening and flexibility. A physical therapist can help make life a lot better for these folks, with a customized program

Jennifer Black - Thanks Dr. Steve now I understand what stenosis is! If you want more information contact Dr. Steve at 1- 800- NEW SELF or www.alleghenyChesapeake.com
